Procedures When Changing Jobs (Certificate of Authorized Employment)
What is the Certificate of Authorized Employment?
According to Article 19-2 of the Immigration Control Act, the Certificate of Authorized Employment is a document issued by the Director of the Immigration Services Agency upon application by a foreign resident in Japan, certifying the activities that the individual is permitted to engage in for remuneration or as a business.
This certificate helps prevent employers from unintentionally hiring foreign nationals who are not authorized to work, and allows job-seeking foreign nationals to prove they possess a valid status of residence that permits legal employment.
